Buried secrets threaten the professional and personal career of a university professor in Luca Guadagnino’s anticipated film, After the Hunt. His third movie in a little over a year (along with Challengers and Queer), the awards season drama stars Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri, Michael Stuhlbarg, Lio Mehiel, and Chloë Sevigny in a story of professional crisis and dark secrets.
There are tons of reasons to be excited about After the Hunt, but for me it’s the return of cinematographer Malik Hassan Sayeed. Sayeed worked extensively with Spike Lee on his iconic crime film Clockers, Girl 6, and He Got Game, and also with Hype Williams on Belly. Sayeed was crucial to defining the look of so many Black films in the mid ’90s, and this is his first feature since 1998.
SYNOPSIS: From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, AFTER THE HUNT is a gripping psychological drama about a college professor (Julia Roberts) who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield), and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come into the light. AFTER THE HUNT is written by Nora Garrett.
Also in the cast are Thaddea Graham, Will Price, Christine Dye, and Burgess Byrd. Nora Garrett wrote the screenplay.
This is a slight departure from Guadagnino’s recent work, and it’s to his credit that he continues to produce anticipated projects across various genres.
Amazon MGM Studios will release After the Hunt in NY and LA theaters October 10th, before expanding nationwide October 17th.
