Earlier this month at TIFF, Aziz Ansari debuted his long-awaited comedy, Good Fortune. Ansari directed, wrote, and starred in the film alongside Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Sandra Oh, telling the story of a poor gig worker in Los Angeles who encounters his budget guardian angel, who gives him a taste of the good life. I likened it to Trading Places meets Heaven Can Wait in my review.
A new trailer for Good Fortune has been released by Lionsgate, who clearly have high expectations for the film. And who can blame them, given the money they’ve made with Reeves on the John Wick franchise?
SYNOPSIS: A well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).
Comedy seems to be making a comeback after too long away from the big screen. Something tells me Good Fortune is going to surprise some people. Not only is it pretty funny (Reeves is incredible), but insightful on the uneven nature of the American economy right now.
Good Fortune opens in theaters on October 17th.
