Formerly titled The Hood, then The Rage, and now finally The Uprising, Paul Greengrass’ Peasant Revolt film is headed to theaters on September 11th from Focus Features. Today brings the debut trailer, which features Andrew Garfield as rebellion leader Wat Tyler, who led the rebels against the forces of King Richard II in 1381.
Also in the cast are Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston, and Sky Yang. Greengrass directs from a script he wrote. Greengrass reunites with producer Jason Blum, who he worked with on The Lost Bus just last year.
SYNOPSIS: Andrew Garfield stars as the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.
The timing suggests Focus Features has an awards strategy for The Uprising, which makes sense. Greengrass was, until recently, someone who could always be counted on to be a contender for multiple accolades. His News of the World earned four Oscar nominations just six years ago.
