While we often talk about James Cameron’s Avatar movies for being record-breakers at the box office, let’s not forget they’ve also combined for 13 Academy Award nominations and 4 wins. With the arrival of the third film, Avatar: Fire & Ash, there’s a good chance this one will shake up the award season, too.
A new trailer has dropped for the third Avatar movie in Cameron’s epic fantasy franchise following the blue-skinned Na’vi. The story finds Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) struggling to cope with the death of their son, Neteyam, in the great battle at the end of the previous movie. We see their encounters with the violent, aggressive Ash People, unlike any Na’vi tribe they’ve encountered before.
Cameron once again directs from a script he wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Reprising their roles from previous movies are Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo and Duane Evans, Jr., while David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin are new additions.
SYNOPSIS: “Jake and Neytiri’s family grapples with grief after Neteyam’s death, encountering a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters and IMAX on December 19th. Not only that, but Avatar: The Way of Water will be re-released for one week only starting on October 3rd.
