‘Street Fighter’ Adds Eric André As Zangief Ring Announcer Don Sauvage

As bizarre as the casting of Legendary’s Street Fighter is, I kinda love it. Half the cast is professional wrestlers, so how could I not? Sadly, it’s just taken a turn for the worse. Jeff Sneider was first to report, followed by Nexus Point News, that Eric André is joining the cast as Zangief’s announcer guy, Don Sauvage.

I am not a fan of André. This news hurts my soul, but I will soldier on the way Guile would want me to.

Don Sauvage is a non-player character in Zangief’s stage in Street Fighter V, serving as the CWA ring announcer. He’s also a background character in the High Roller Stage, and appears in the Shadow Falls story mode.

Anyway, there’s also reporting from THR that Sony Pictures will no longer distribute Street Fighter, as Legendary is close to inking a deal with Paramount Pictures. Legendary kinda hopes around a lot. It previously had deals inked with Warner Bros and Sony until the latter ended at the end of last year. It’s worth noting this does not impact the Dune and Godzilla/Kong franchises which are staying with Warner Bros.

Anyway, André is best known for The Eric André Show. He was most recently seen as Stuart Clarke aka Rampage in Marvel’s Ironheart series. This will be a reunion with director Kitao Sakurai who he worked with on the 2021 comedy Bad Trip.

Still, the Street Fighter cast remains awesome despite this development. The film’s crazy crew includes WWE superstars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns as Guile and Akuma, respectively, New Japan Pro Wrestling veteran Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, 50 Cent as Balrog, Andrew Schulz as Dan, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Orville Peck as Vega, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison,  Jason Momoa as Blanka, and Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim.

Street Fighter is expected to hit theaters in May 2026.
