A couple of months ago, Marvel Studios enraptured the Internet by posting a bunch of empty chairs with actor names on them, representing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. It was a silly stunt but it captured our attention for hours. Even with all of those names listed, rumors have been that more than 30 more could be added to the film, making for a gigantic 60-person ensemble. And now Ryan Reynolds is out there teasing that he’s going to be one of them.
Reynolds posted to his Instagram an image of the Avengers symbol overlaid with the “anarchy” sign last seen in Cassandra Nova’s HQ in Deadpool & Wolverine. This has fueled speculation that Reynolds will suit up as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. Let’s be honest, he’s probably in it because Marvel would be stupid not to add arguably its most popular character from the biggest film it’s had since Avengers: Endgame.
It’s also possible that Reynolds is kicking off more cast announcements. It would make sense for Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine, and maybe even Dafne Keen’s X-23, considering we saw all of them make it to the end of Deadpool & Wolverine as the Fox timeline became intertwined with the sacred MCU timeline. Other characters from the Fox universe appearing in Avengers: Doomsday include James Marsden as Cyclops, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.
Reynolds has been teasing a mysterious new Deadpool team-up project, so this could conceivably be connected to that. It sure doesn’t look like an X-Force thing, does it?
Expect more news to drop on this soon. Or not. Reynolds has been known to bait fans with stuff like this on occasion.
