There have been two of James Cameron’s five planned Avatar movies. The first, released in 2009, is the highest-grossing movie of all-time with $2.9B. By the time the second, Avatar: The Way of Water, arrived in 2022, people had begun to question whether audiences actually cared about this franchise. It went on to become the third highest-grossing movie ever with $2.3B. I think that, yeah, people give a shit about these movies, whether some critics want to admit it or not. That bodes extremely well for Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opens this December.
I caught this trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash last night while seeing The Fantastic Four: First Steps a second time, and wondered if I had missed something. Nope, the trailer is now available online for everyone to enjoy.
The story finds Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) struggling to cope with the death of their son, Neteyam, in the great battle at the end of the previous movie. We see their encounters with the violent, aggressive Ash People, unlike any Na’vi tribe they’ve encountered before.
Cameron once again directs from a script he wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Reprising their roles from previous movies are Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo and Duane Evans, Jr., while David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin are new additions.
SYNOPSIS: “Jake and Neytiri’s family grapples with grief after Neteyam’s death, encountering a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters on December 19th.
