Sometimes, a single traumatic event can ripple throughout your life, affecting any attempt at future happiness. It’s the exploration of this that drives Eva Victor’s stunning feature debut, Sorry, Baby, which premiered to tremendous acclaim at Sundance earlier this year. The film, while tragic in many ways, is notable for how funny and quirky it can also be, creating a disarming experience that is tough to shake.
Victor wrote, directed, and starred in Sorry, Baby as Agnes, a brilliant university professor whose trust is violated by someone she respected. The film unfolds in an unconventional fashion, and focuses on the many ways that Agnes changes her life to cope with what happened.
Also in the cast are Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch, Louis Cancelmi, and Kelly McCormack.
SYNOPSIS: “Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on… for everyone around her, at least.”
Cortland reviewed Sorry, Baby out of Sundance and said “you find yourself completely devastated by the simplicity and relatability of the story and how it is told.”
I also saw the film and agree with all of the praise that’s been heaped on it. A24 would be wise to ride the wave of those critical reviews to get people in the seats to see this movie.
Sorry, Baby opens in theaters on June 27th.
