Back in 2023, James Wan began teasing the possibility of The Conjuring: Last Rites being the end of the line. The most successful horror franchise ever has been a gift not only for him but for Warner Bros., and after $2.2B at the box office, multiple sequels and spinoffs, it’s tough to see it ever coming to an end. But hey, there’s only so many demons Ed and Lorraine Warren can fight, right?
The trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites is here, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returning as the real-life paranormal detectives Ed and Lorraine Warren. Michael Chaves, directing his fourth movie in the franchise (The Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II), works from a script by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
Here’s the synopsis: The Conjuring: Last Rites delivers another thrilling chapter of the iconic Conjuring cinematic universe, based on real events. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reunite for one last case as renowned, real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in a powerful and spine-chilling addition to the global box office-breaking franchise.
Also in the cast are Mia Tomlinson as Ed and Lorraine’s daughter, and Ben Hardy as her boyfriend.
The Conjuring: Last Rites hits theaters and IMAX on September 5th.
