‘Materialists’ Final Trailer: Celine Song’s New Rom-Com Looks Ripped Straight From The ’90s

A24 has revealed one final trailer for Celine Song’s rom-com, Materialists. Her follow-up to the acclaimed, Best Picture-nominated Past Lives, the film stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. True to its title, the trailer explores the high cost of finding true love in today’s society, especially in the New York City dating scene that Johnson’s character occupies.

Materialists stars Johnson as Lucy, a New York City matchmaker torn between two men: one a perfect fantasy, the other her imperfect ex. Song once again writes, produces, and directs the film, and tackles this idea of the past and the present colliding when it comes to matters of the heart. It’s a theme that Song clearly feels close to, but Materialists still looks like a very different movie from Past Lives. I mean, this looks like it was ripped straight out of the ’90s, which is kinda awesome.

Also in the cast are Zoë Winters, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Marin Ireland. Song reunites with Past Lives cinematographer Shabier Kirchner, along with editor Keith Fraase, and costume designer Katina Danabassis. Why mess with a good thing that led to a pair of Oscar nominations?

SYNOPSIS: A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.

A24 will release Materialists in theaters on June 13th.
