Chris Pine, who’s been sorta quiet since Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (yes, I know Poolman exists), has a new action film that’ll be heading to the Cannes sales floor. Variety reports Pine will star in Run the Night for Lionsgate and Hidden Pictures, playing a man in Amsterdam on the run from the Dutch mob.
Run the Night will be the directorial debut of Marvel regular, Robert Alonzo. Who is Robert Alonzo? He’s from the same group of stunt performers-turned-directors such as David Leitch, Chad Stahelski, and Sam Hargrave. Alonzo is currently working on Avengers: Doomsday, and previously did work on Captain America: Brave New World, Deadpool, and 2009’s Star Trek alongside Pine.
Alex Davidson and John Glenn (Eagle Eye) co-wrote the screenplay from Glenn’s story. Glenn is also working on a new Robin Hood series for Lionsgate. Here’s a synopsis:
“Run the Night” follows a banker, accused of betraying the Penose (the Dutch mob), who is dumped naked in the heart of Amsterdam with a $10 million bounty on his head. Hunted by the city’s most violent gangs, he must fight his way across the city by dawn to save the lives of his wife and child — a mission that reveals he was never just the money guy.
“I love this story, character, and reuniting with Rob,” said Pine. “There are so many places for this character to go, and I’m excited about the possibilities of bringing him to life on the big screen.”
