So all is forgiven? Hollywood is ready to give Tom Hooper another chance after his last film, the 2019 embarrassment Cats? Deadline reports Hooper will direct Oscar winner Natalie Portan in Photograph 51, a biopic of British chemist and DNA scientist Rosalind Franklin.
Hooper will direct from a script by Anna Ziegler, adapting her own stageplay. Photograph 51 tells the story of Rosalind Franklin, who was not credited for her achievements during her brief lifetime. Referred to as “the dark lady of DNA”, she was key to our understanding of the DNA structure, and it was her image, known as Photo 51 which led to the discovery of the DNA double helix.
Ignoring Cats, Hooper has done a lot of acclaimed work including The King’s Speech, Les Misérables, and The Danish Girl.
Coming up for Portman is Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth, followed by Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, both arriving this year.
