If there’s one thing we know for sure about Hunger Games movies, they always have large, starry ensembles. The latest, director Francis Lawrence’s Sunrise On the Reaping, is shaping up to be much the same. The biggest new name to join the cast is Voldemort himself, Ralph Fiennes, who will be taking on the role of Coriolanus Snow.
Deadline reports on Fiennes joining The Hunger Games: Sunrise On the Reaping, becoming the third actor to play Snow after Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth. Also joining the cast is Karate Kid Legends star, Ben Wang. Wang just worked with Lawrence on the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk.
Molly McCann is also joining the cast as Louella, with Iona Bell portraying her Capitol-assigned lookalike Lou Lou. Screen veteran Lili Taylor has also signed on for a role.
Already set to star in the prequel are Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee.
Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The story centers on 16-year-old Haymitch, a clever and resourceful boy from District 12, who’s unexpectedly chosen for this edition of the games, which will feature a deadly twist: twice the number of tributes, with 48 children sent into the arena to battle for their lives.
As if Fiennes doesn’t already have enough to do. He’ll be seen next in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, and is expected to appear in the sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
Sunrise On the Reaping opens on November 20th 2026.
