‘Fail-Safe’: Brie Larson To Star In JJ Abrams-Produced Creature Feature

After a couple of years away, Brie Larson has found her next feature project. The Captain Marvel actress and Oscar winner will star in Fail-Safe, a creature feature produced by JJ Abrams and directed by JT Mollner.

Based on a screenplay by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) adapted from Philip Fracassi’s short story, Fail-Safe is described as “a modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.”

Abrams said in a statement: “With Fail-Safe, Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It’s a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying. To have JT Mollner in the director’s chair — his Strange Darling blew me away — is a dream come true. Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets up Fail-Safe to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.”

Larson won the Academy Award for Best Actress following her performance in Room. In 2023 she starred in The Marvels and appeared in Fast X. She earned multiple award nominations for the Apple TV+ series Lessons in Chemistry, which she starred in and exec-produced.

Mollner is the director behind the 2016 Western film Outlaws and Angels. His career really took off with his sophomore effort, Strange Darling, which won the Saturn Award for Best Thriller. Coming up, Mollner has the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk which he wrote the screenplay for. [Deadline]
