‘Mountainhead’ First Look: Jesse Armstrong’s Directorial Debut With Steve Carell Hits HBO In May

Succession has been off the air since 2023, and HBO is moving quickly on series creator Jesse Armstrong’s upcoming movie, Mountainhead.  Production took place just last month in Park City, and already we not only have first-look images but also a premiere date of May 31st at 8pm.

That’s an incredibly fast turnaround for Armstrong, who isn’t going to have a lot of time in post. Mountainhead stars Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef. Armstrong’s screenplay centers on a group of billionaire buddies who meet up amidst a rolling financial crisis. Sounds right in the filmmaker’s wheelhouse.

Also in the cast are Hadley Robinson, Andy Daly, Ali Kinkade, Daniel Oreskes, and David Thompson. Ami MacKenzie and Ava Kostia.

Mountainhead marks Armstrong’s feature directorial debut. His previous big screen writing credits include In the Loop, Four Lions, The Day Shall Come, and Downhill.
