Nathan Fillion To Return As Guy Gardner In DC Studios’ ‘Lanterns’ Series

This, I think was inevitable but at least it’s finally been confirmed. Nathan Fillion will reprise his Superman role as Guy Gardner in DC Studios’ HBO/Max series, Lanterns. I mean, of course he will. You can’t have a Green Lantern show without the greatest Lantern of all time…at least in my opinion, he is.

Fillion will play the brash, easily punchable Gardner first in James Gunn’s Superman, in what is expected to be a small role. It’s unclear how big his part will be in Lanterns, which finds veteran GL Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and his partner John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, investigating a murder on Earth.  If Gardner is involved, he’s probably acting like a butthead and getting in the way.

Also in the cast are Kelly Macdonald as a small-town sheriff and a possible love interest for Jordan; Garrett Dillahunt as a “self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated façade”; John Ulrich Thomsen as former GL and archnemesis Sinestro; Jason Ritter as Billy Macon; and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe.

“He’s a jerk! What’s important to know is, you don’t have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless,” Fillion told TV Guide. “So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He’s not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that’s the answer.”

Lanterns is expected to air in summer 2026. [EW]
