The mysterious next film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu now has a high-profile new cast member, joining Tom Cruise who signed on over a year ago. Emma D’Arcy confirmed to Deadline that she has joined the film that is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
“I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom,” they announced. “They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”
D’Arcy has been killing it as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen on HBO’s hit House of the Dragon series, which is about to enter season three. This will be the actor’s first feature role since Eva Husson’s Mothering Sunday in 2021.
They join an impressive cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
Unsurprisingly, Iñárritu has gathered an awards-worthy cast for this one. He previously won Oscars for Birdman and The Revenant.
Details on Iñárritu’s film remain under wraps, so we have nothing on D’Arcy’s role. Here’s the brief logline that’s been going around for a while: “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
The filmmaker reunites with Birdman co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, with Sabina Bierman, another contributor. Warner Bros. plans to release the film on October 2nd 2026.
