‘Sharp Corner’ Trailer: Ben Foster Is Obsessed With Car Wrecks In New Thriller With Cobie Smulders

With mesmerizing performances in The Messenger, Hell or High Water, Leave No Trace, and more, sometimes I wonder how it is that Ben Foster has never been an Academy Award nominee. It doesn’t seem to be anything that bothers Foster (I spoke to him years ago and he’s pretty chill), and he stays plenty busy with loads of projects. Coming up next for Foster is Sharp Corner, a new thriller that pairs him with another personal favorite, Avengers actress Cobie Smulders. It’s like they asked me to be casting director.

Written and directed by Jason Buxton (Blackbird), Sharp Corner has an interesting premise that the synopsis can capture best:

SHARP CORNER follows Josh, a troubled man increasingly consumed by the fatal car crashes in front of his house. As Josh’s obsession takes hold, he begins to spiral, placing his wife and son in jeopardy and setting in motion a series of events that threaten to permanently break the family apart.

A troubled parent spiraling while also trying to take care of their children? This is right in Foster’s wheelhouse.  The film debuted last year at TIFF and has been making the festival rounds ever since.

Vertical will release Sharp Corner in theaters and VOD on May 9th.
