“Ugh, as if!” If you listened closely, you might’ve heard Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz exclaim this at those other attempts to reboot or sequelize the 1995 classic, Clueless. But you won’t hear it about this one. A new Clueless sequel series is in the works at Peacock, and Silverstone will not exec-produce it, she’ll also be featured in it.
Variety has news on the Clueless series from writers/exec-producers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original movie, is also back as an executive producer.
Clueless is one of those quintessential 1990s high school comedies, arguably the best and brightest of the era. Loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, the story follows posh do-gooding Beverly Hills high schooler Cher, who decides to help an unpopular newcomer become popular by giving her a complete makeover and by playing matchmaker.
This new series has nothing to do with the TV series that ran from 1996-1999 which featured some of the cast with the exception of Silverstone. Rachel Blanchard played Cher in that version. Silverstone was also not involved in Peacock’s attempted series in 2020 that would center on the character of Dionne and the mystery of Cher’s disappearance.
Schwartz and Savage have tons of TV experience that perfectly aligns with the youthful aspects of Clueless. They created Gossip Girl, Runaways, and The O.C. just to name a few.
Clueless should debut in 2026 on Peacock.
