Oscar winner Meryl Streep could be in for a trip to Narnia. A report by Nexus Point News (judge accordingly) says Streep is in talks to voice Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia film, expected to be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. In C.S. Lewis’ novels, Aslan is a male lion who serves as a mentor and guardian to the citizens of the magical realm, as well as its many human visitors.
There hasn’t been any confirmed casting for Narnia yet. We’ve heard rumors of Daniel Craig, Charlie XCX, and Saoirse Ronan possibly signing on. This would be Streep’s first movie since her supporting role in 2021’s Don’t Look Up.
The Magician’s Nephew is a prequel to Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia books, and the sixth of seven published. Gerwig is signed on to direct two films for Netflix, while the streamer has plans to produce eight movies in total.
Streep was most recently seen in episodes of Only Murders in the Building. There’s been talk of her starring in Cameron Crowe’s Joni Mitchell biopic, but nothing is confirmed.
Gerwig hopes to begin shooting on Narnia this summer, with a theatrical release in Thanksgiving 2026. That will be followed by a Netflix release in December 2026.
