2018’s A Simple Favor was an unexpected hit, especially at a time when so many were complaining about too many superhero movies. Directed by Paul Feig, the film about a suburban housewife’s investigation into the disappearance of her glamorous neighbor showed the box office muscle of stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, as it earned nearly $100M. So it was a little surprising when the sequel, Another Simple Favor, moved to Prime Video. And now ahead of the film’s SXSW world premiere, we’re getting a tease of the latest mystery to be solved.
Kendrick returns as mommy vlogger Stephanie Smothers, with Lively as the mysterious, elegant Emily Nelson. The prior film ended with Emily in prison for murder, and Stephanie having written a book about her experience looking into Emily’s supposed disappearance. With Emily somehow being released early, she’s now asking her old friend Stephanie for a favor and that’s to be the maid of honor at her wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Of course, an extravagant wedding in Italy is the perfect place for murder and betrayal, too.
Feig returns to direct from a script by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. Familiar faces from the first film include Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Henry Golding, Joshua Satine, and Ian Ho. Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Elena Sofia Ricci, and Allison Janney are new additions to the cast.
SYNOPSIS: “Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) reunite on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”
Another Simple Favor hits Prime Video on May 1st.
