The robot uprising in this week’s comedy Y2K will look like a cakewalk compared to the chaos Rachel Zegler experienced with Disney’s live-action Snow White. The latest Disney animated classic reimagining has faced loads of controversy due to the ideological beliefs of its stars, frequent delays, an uproar from fans due to the casting of Zegler, and let’s not even talk about those dwarves! But Disney still has very high hopes for the film, as seen in the latest trailer.
Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White offers a slightly different take than the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Zegler plays the titular princess who, as a child, survived a vicious snow storm, earning her name for that rather than for white porcelain skin. Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen, and while her dialogue seems to be pretty cringe-worthy, at least she’s having a ball with it.
Also in the cast are Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, Martin Klebba, and Colin Michael Carmichael. Webb directs from a script by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, so there’s hope for Snow White to have a more contemporary spin. Another feather in the film’s cap is new music from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, one of which we hear performed by Zegler in this footage.
Snow White opens in theaters on March 21st 2025.
