Following the massive success of Denis Villeneuve’s two Dune films, all eyes are on him to direct the third, Dune: Messiah. While he’s been a bit cagey about that, at least one actress he worked with previously is ready to confirm her return for an expanded role.
Speaking with Collider at CCXP in Brazil, Anya Taylor-Joy talked about reprising her role as Alia Atreides in Dune: Messiah. She had a small cameo role in Dune: Part Two in a scene that essentially set up her character’s future importance. Alia is the younger sister of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
In Frank Herbert’s books, Alia is a much bigger part of the story than Villeneuve sought to include up to this point. So while her role will be expanded in a third film, it’s unclear how faithful it’ll be to the novels.
Taylor-Joy was on hand to talk about her role in Scott Derrickson’s action thriller The Gorge. She’ll be seen in that next along with Miles Teller on February 14th 2025. She also recently signed on for a return to TV in Lucky, an Apple series from Reese Witherspoon.
Assuming that production on Dune: Messiah begins in 2026, the film would likely hit theaters the following year.
