Jason Momoa To Debut As Lobo In ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’, David Leitch Wants To Direct Solo Film

Jason Momoa has gotten his wish, finally. After years of rumors, Jason Momoa is officially set to play DC Comics antihero Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU. Even more, he’ll make his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Deadline revealed the news and it has since been confirmed by both Momoa and Gunn.

Momoa posted to his IG this quote from a 2023 interview…

“So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” he said at the time. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

The caption to the post simply reads: “They called.”

Gunn followed that with a welcome message of his own…

Talk of Momoa playing Lobo has been going on even before he was cast as Aquaman in Batman v Superman. Once the DCEU folded, it was inevitable that Momoa would get this chance to play his favorite character, a role he seems born to play.

And with this casting, already rumors are swirling about a solo Lobo movie. If that happens, Bullet Train and The Fall Guy director David Leitch has volunteered to direct it. He made the offer in the comments of Momoa’s announcement, stating simply “let’s do a Lobo feature.”

Leitch has done superhero stuff before, as he directed Deadpool 2 in 2018.

Momoa joins a Supergirl cast led by Milly Alcock as the Kryptonian superhero. Matthias Schoenaerts is aboard to play the villainous Krem, while Eve Ridley as the alien Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opens June 26th 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie.
