Tom Cruise Is Back As Ethan Hunt For The Last Time (?) In ‘Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning’ Teaser

Lost in the critical acclaim of Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One is the fact that it didn’t actually do well at the box office. At least not by comparison to the previous chapters, Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, and the massive performance of Barbenheimer that same year. That’s led Paramount to make some considerable changes, like altering the new film’s title so that it no longer looks like a direct sequel and instead like the end of the franchise as a whole. And that brings us to the first teaser for Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning.

With callbacks to earlier missions, it certainly looks like the end of the road for Cruise’s IMF agent Ethan Hunt. He’s joined by his running buddy, director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie, along with co-stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerney, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, Nick Offerman, and Hannah Waddingham.

Here’s the synopsis, which doesn’t give away much: Our lives are the sum of our choices. Tom Cruise is Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning..

The story picks up where Dead Reckoning left off, with Hunt and his IMF team tracking down the Entity, a powerful rogue AI that could doom the world.

With reports of the budget skyrocketing to $400M, Cruise and McQuarrie need this film to be huge hit otherwise Paramount might just pull the plug once and for all. Wouldn’t it be a shame if the thing to finally do in the IMF is ticket sales?

Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23rd 2025.
