Chris Rock has directed three movies in his career: Head of State, I Think I Love My Wife, and Top Five, the last one a decade ago. But he seems ready to get back behind the camera with a couple of different projects. Recently, Rock agreed to direct a remake of Another Round, and now he’s added another that he wrote himself.
Variety reports Rock will write, direct, and star in Misty Green. The story centers on a talented actress whose personal demons have derailed her career and halted any chance to revitalize it. But her next best shot arrives with the perfect role in a new film by a director, played by Rock, who she shares a contentious past with.
The film is described as “a contemporary tale of Hollywood excess and inequity.”
Rock most recently appeared in the acclaimed drama Rustin, and also the Saw spinoff film, Spiral and David O. Russell’s Amsterdam. He’s currently an exec-producer on the animated series Everybody Still Hates Chris, a reimagined version of Rock’s hit autobiographical comedy Everybody Hates Chris.
No word on when Misty Green will shoot, but expect more news to follow. At least nobody is talking about him getting slapped by Will Smith anymore.
