Mark Rylance Eyed For Dumbledore Role In ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series

The problem Warner Bros. faces with their Harry Potter TV series is finding actors who can take on roles made famous by others.  Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will always be recognized for the Wizarding World. The only real solution is to plow ahead and get the best actors possible, and judging by this latest news that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Variety reports that Oscar winner Mark Rylance is being sought to play Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. Dumbledore is the headmaster at Hogwarts, the school for magical youngsters where the story largely takes place. The character was played previously by two incredible actors, first by the late Richard Harris and followed by Michael Gambon. Jude Law played a younger Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Rylance won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his performance in Bridge of Spies. He’s also known for his roles in The BFG, Dunkirk, and Ready Player One.

Unknown actors are reportedly being sought for the younger characters, which is probably a smart idea. More recognizable actors, like Rylance, are the preferred choice to play the adult characters. Things are pretty early on but expect news to start arriving soon.
