Sophie Turner Lands Lara Croft Role In Amazon’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series

Just weeks after we learned Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton were named as finalists to star in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider series, a decision appears to have been made. Deadline reports Turner is in negotiations to be the next Lara Croft.

Turner is in talks to pick up the mantle of Lara Croft in Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider, a Prime Video series based on the bestselling adventure video game. Croft joins Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the only actresses to play the character in live-action. So she’s in very good company with sizable shoes to fill. Hayley Atwell voices the character in Netflix’s recent animated series.

For Turner, this is a huge get and the biggest lead role of her career. Of course, she’s been a part of some pretty big projects already. She’s best known for playing Sansa Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Jean Grey in Fox’s X-Men films. But Lara Croft is an icon, and fans of the character can get snippy about the way she’s portrayed.

Turner recently starred in the crime miniseries Joan, and she’ll be featured in another Prime Video show, the heist series Haven alongside Saltburn‘s Archie Madekwe.

Tomb Raider should hit Prime Video in 2026.
