Red One, the holiday flick where Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson go on a mission to save Santa Claus wins….but in an ugly way. That first sentence should have almost guaranteed a $100M opening weekend but in today’s world, it couldn’t break $50M. Granted it almost got there worldwide, with a $84M take when all receipts are counted it’s still a blow to all those involved. There’s still time, unlike most films this one has the holidays working in its favor and as the only big blockbuster Christmas movie on the slate people could be going to see it for weeks to come.
2. Venom: The Last Dance– $7.3M/$127M
Finally, Venom is dethroned. While a total of $127M isn’t something to get the record books out for it’s still pretty impressive all things considered.

4. Heretic – $5.1M/$20.4M
A tough week for Heretic as the Hugh Grant led creep-fest suffered the biggest loss of the week dropping 52% from last week.

While a good bit of box office news can be depressing when viewed against tally’s from a decade ago there is one awesome trend I’ve noticed, International films getting a wider viewership in the US. This one comes from the Philippines, who have a small but impressive film culture.
9. A Real Pain– $2.3M/$3.0M
This character study following two cousins on a trip to reconnect expanded wide this week resulting in a whopping 690% increase in ticket sales.
