‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Could See Josh Brolin Return As Thanos

Thanos met his ultimate defeat at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, but the repercussions of his dreaded “snap” is still being felt across the MCU. Is it possible that Thanos could return for the next big Marvel event, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars?

Another rumor to note but not take as gospel just yet, scooper My Time to Shine Hello says Josh Brolin is in talks to return as Thanos for Avengers: Secret Wars. As if that film won’t have enough going on already, an appearance by the Mad Titan would add to the chaos that already sees Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, possibly a Tony Stark variant.

It’s also likely we’ll see a new team of Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and maybe even a few crossover heroes from the Fox and Sony movies. I’d love to see them orchestrate a face-to-face between Cable and Thanos, both characters played by Brolin. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is also expected to have a significant role. We recently learned Spider-Man 4 will be just two months after Doomsday opens.

The Russo Brothers are back to direct both Avengers films, with Stephen McFeely writing the script. Doomsday hits theaters on May 1st 2026, and Secret Wars on May 7th 2027.
