The children of two of our greatest American filmmakers star in the upcoming holiday family dramedy, Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point. Francesca Scorsese, daughter of Martin Scorsese, and Sawyer Spielberg, son of Steven Spielberg, are part of an impressive ensemble that includes Michael Cera, Elsie Fisher, Matilda Fleming, Maria Dizzia, and Ben Shenkman.
Directed by Tyler Taormina, the film tells the story of a large family that gathers for the final Christmas celebration in their ancestral home. Of course, old squabbles and tensions arise, leading to the teens sneaking out to do their own thing.
This trailer suggets a sweet, nostalgic holiday offering that could be a nice break from the heavy awards season dramas.
Taormina, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ed Berger, debuted in 2019 with the offbeat coming-of-age comedy Ham on Rye.
IFC Films will release Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point on November 8th. It premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival in the Director’s Fortnight section, earning positive reviews.
SYNOPSIS: On Christmas Eve, a family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own.
