James Mangold Could Shoot ‘Dawn Of The Jedi’ In 2025

Despite Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny being a complete dud, James Mangold is one of Hollywood’s favorite filmmakers. And for good reason, as he can do anything and everything from high-class drama like Ford v Ferrari to superhero fare such as Logan. The studios love him for it. He’s currently on the circuit promoting his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, but after that, it’s back under the Disney umbrella for Dawn of the Jedi.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Mangold could shoot Dawn of the Jedi as early as next year. The film will be set 25,000 years prior to The Skywalker Saga, during the Jedi Order’s formation. Andor scribe Beau Willimon has been tasked with co-writing the script with Mangold.

Take this with a grain of salt, though, because Lucasfilm has a habit of putting things on hold. That’s the case right now for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie featuring Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey Skywalker, and also Dave Filoni’s Star Wars film.

All they seem to be counting on right now is the continued success of The Mandalorian, which is why The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is first to open in May 22nd 2026, directed by Jon Favreau. It’ll be the first Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

Other projects that may or may not happen include Donald Glover’s Lando, and films by Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, and Shawn Levy.

Mangold’s A Complete Unknown stars Timothée Chalamet and opens Christmas Day. Also in the distance for Mangold is a Swamp Thing movie for James Gunn’s DCU.
