It’s still surprising to me that Cobra Kai ended up being as good as it is, not just that but loved fully by the masses. The odds were astronomical but like Daniel at that first All Valley tournament the show crane kicked audiences into submission. It was not surprising then, with the show nearing its end, that Hollywood would find a way to continue the story.
Personally, I think they chose to do this in the most perfect of ways, by combining the franchise with it’s 2010 remake. If you haven’t already heard then all you need to do is look at the official poster below to have your mind blown that the next installment of the Karate Kid franchise will feature both Ralph Macchio’s Daniel-San, and Jackie Chan’s Mr Han.
The film, quite famously, held an open casting all for the new student this time around, eventually coming to rest on Ben Wang who, I’ll admit, looks fierce in this poster. He’s definitely not the lost and confused little lamb that Macchio portrayed back in 1984 when this whole thing first kicked off.
If you’re dying for more news make sure to keep your eyes peeled, Karate Kid Legends will have a panel at the New York Comic Con that will hopefully provide some insight as to how these two titans of Tae Kwon Do come to exist in the same film. Could it be that Chan will make an appearance in the second half of Cobra Kai season 6, setting up the film? Time will tell.
