‘Crime 101’: Halle Berry Joins Chris Hemsworth In ‘Heat’-esque Heist Thriller

With her new horror Never Let Go in theaters right now, Oscar winner Halle Berry has lined up her next gig. Deadline reports she’ll join Chris Hemsworth in Crime 101, Amazon MGM’s adaptation of the Don Winslow book that many have compared to Heat.

Berry joins Hemsworth and a cast that includes Barry Keoghan and Mark Ruffalo. Pedro Pascal had been attached earlier in development, but scheduling conflicts forced him to drop out. Details on Berry’s role have not been made clear, but adding an Oscar winner gives the film a big boost. Berry remains busy and popular for recent performances in The Call, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Netflix’s The Union. She won an Oscar for Best Actress through her performance in Monster’s Ball in 2002, becoming the first African-American woman to do so.

Directed by Bart Layton (American Animals) who co-wrote the script with Peter Straughan, the story “follows high-level jewel thefts taking place up and down the Pacific Coast that police have linked to Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.”

Filming is expected to begin later this month. Crime 101 will then open in theaters next year.
