When Cate Blanchett was cast in the Zellner Brothers’ next film, Alpha Gang, a lot of people made a big deal about the indie filmmakers landing such an A-list star. But that’s ignoring the Sasquatch Sunset and Damsel directors’ past which includes working with Robert Pattinson, Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Riley Keough, and more. That said, the cast of their new film is shaping up to be the best they’ve ever put together.
Deadline reports that Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, Zoë Kravitz, Léa Seydoux, Riley Keough, and Channing Tatum have joined the Alpha Gang cast. The story follows a group of alien invaders who come to earth disguised as a biker gang, only to have their plans for world domination complicated by human emotions.
This project has been developing for a few years. Yeun was part of the originally announced casting three years ago along with Jon Hamm, Nicholas Hoult, Andrea Riseborough, Mackenzie Davis, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sofia Boutella. That version has obviously fallen through.
If Sasquatch Sunset is any indicator, we’re going to see many of these stars buried under makeup and prosthetics to play the extraterrestrials. Keough knows what that’s like and is obviously keen on working with the Zellners again. She also gets to reunite with Kravitz, her Mad Max: Fury Road co-star, and with Tatum who she directed in Blink Twice.
Filming on Alpha Gang begins next year so probably look for it in 2026.
