John Wick might be off the board for now, but the franchise isn’t slowing down. In fact, that universe of assassins that has been built is expanding, with the previous miniseries The Continental, an upcoming spinoff film based on Donnie Yen’s character Caine, and now with Ballerina: From the World of John Wick. Ana de Armas, who showed off her shoot ’em up skills in No Time to Die, stars in this story of cold-blooded revenge.
De Armas stars as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who sets out on a bloody path of vengeance against those who murdered her family. Just one look and you can see that the style of the action and the locales are everything that’s expected from a John Wick movie. There even a few familiar faces, such as Anjelica Huston who returns as The Director, Ian McShane as Winston, and the late Lance Reddick in his final appearance as Charon.
Newcomers to the franchise include Norman Reedus, Gabriel Byrne as the villain, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and David Castañeda.
Screenwriter Shay Hatten previously wrote John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, which is good because Ballerina is set between them. Behind the camera is director Len Wiseman, best known for the Underworld films.
Synopsis: Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.
Ballerina hits theaters on June 5th 2025.
