James Cameron Confirms Michelle Yeoh’s ‘Avatar’ Debut Is After ‘Fire And Ash’

Contrary to reports from five years ago (!!!), Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will not be appearing in James Cameron’s Avatar 3, which we recently learned would be titled Fire and Ash. Cameron confirmed Yeoh’s character doesn’t actually debut until Avatar 4.

“Michelle Yeoh won’t be in 3. She’s in 4 and 5,” Cameron told EW. “So that got a little bit misreported. She will be coming in soon to do her part, which is an interesting, fun character.”

Cameron continued by talking about the length of time that these movies have been written and ready to go…

“I mean, we’re getting ahead of ourselves now. This whole thing has been planned for years and years. The scripts were all written years ago, through the end of movie 5. So we’ve been working on parts of 4 even as we go along, mostly because we’ve got this young cast. We had to shoot them all while they were still young.”

Yeoh will play Dr. Karina Mogue. While unconfirmed, rumors are that she’ll be an associate of Giovanni Ribisi’s RDA administrator Paker Selfridge, meaning she could be part of the pursuit of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), and their Na’vi family.

Avatar: Fire and Ash opens on December 19th 2025. The untitled Avatar 4 is set to open on December 21st 2029 with Avatar 5 scheduled for December 19th, 2031.
