Britney Spears’ ‘The Woman In Me’ Memoir Is Becoming A Movie, Jon M. Chu To Direct

Britney Spears’ life story is becoming a movie. Deadline reports that Universal has acquired the rights to adapt Spears’ bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me. Jon M. Chu, who knows a thing or two about pop music endeavors, will direct. Chu is the director of Wicked, Step Up 2: The Streets, In the Heights, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never…also Jem and the Holograms and GI Joe: Retaliation. Can’t forget those.

Published in 2023, The Woman in Me charts Spears’ rise to pop music superstardom, her tragic childhood, her many public relationships and the tabloid craze she was constantly a part of, and finally her battle to free herself from conservatorship that has made her popular once more.

The audio version of the book was read by Michelle Williams with a special foreword by Spears. Don’t read into that as Williams playing Spears in the movie, though. It’s unclear who will be cast in the role but it could be an actress with a pop music background as we’ve seen many times in the recent past. It’s sure to be one of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood for an up ‘n coming actress.

Chu will reunite with his Wicked producer Marc Platt on the film. A screenwriter has yet to be named.

This is going to be a huge film for Universal, possibly on a Bohemian Rhapsody level, so expect them to put everything into it. Spears has sold over 150 million albums and is a true crossover star. After some years as a celebrity pariah, she’s more beloved now than ever.
