George Clooney/Brad Pitt Crime Comedy ‘Wolfs’ Is Getting A Sequel And Brief Theatrical Run

The combo of George Clooney and Brad Pitt has been a hit before, and Apple thinks it will be again. Deadline reports Apple Original Films has already ordered up a sequel to Wolfs, the crime comedy from Spider-Man writer/director Jon Watts. Not only that, but they see enough potential to put the film in theaters following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Wolfs will get a brief theatrical run courtesy of Sony Pictures on September 20th, before hitting Apple TV+ streaming on September 27th.

Written and directed by Watts, the film stars Clooney and Pitt as professional fixers who prefer to work alone, but are thrust together after being hired for the same job. Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind and Zlatko Burić co-star.

Clooney revealed back in December that talks for a sequel had already begun with Apple. The film has tested well with audiences and Apple wants to get it out there in front of as many people as possible.

The week-long rollout is small compared to other high-profile Apple films, such as Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. But perhaps they are a bit gunshy after Fly Me to the Moon performed poorly despite the A-list duo of Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum.

“Wolfs is the kind of big event movie that makes Apple TV+ such an exceptional home for the best in entertainment,” Apple Original Films head of features Matt Dentler said in a statement. “With George and Brad’s remarkable and engaging chemistry under Jon Watts’ extraordinary direction, ‘Wolfs’ blends all the great elements of comedy, action, and drama into a hugely entertaining movie that will leave audiences ready for what’s next. Releasing the movie to theaters before making it widely available to Apple TV+ customers brings the best of both worlds to audiences, and we’re excited to see fans embrace the movie as we start working with Jon on the sequel.”
