This rumor is a little distressing as it arrives so close to San Diego Comic-Con, when Marvel Studios is expected to have loads of updates for the fans. But according to Nexus Point News (via World of Reel), Avengers 5 has lost yet another writer. And this isn’t just some guy, it’s Michael Waldron, who has been a reliable hand for Marvel as the creator of Loki and writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He’s also attached to write Avengers: Secret Wars, and when Kevin Feige was planning to do a Star Wars movie he was part of that, too.
The currently untitled fifth Avengers movie has no writer and no director attached at this time. Originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the film has been in limbo ever since Jonathan Majors was fired as Kang the Conqueror. Director Destin Daniel Cretton also left the film, along with writer Jeff Loveness. Without Waldron, it’s unclear who Marvel will turn to as screenwriter.
Marvel announced the film in July 2022, at San Diego Comic-Con. It stands to reason that Feige will have something to tell fans about it next week when Marvel has their big Hall H panel. Avengers 5 is slated to open on May 1st 2026, but that’s looking less likely by the day.
