‘Marty Supreme’: Timothée Chalamet To Star As Real-Life Ping-Pong Champion In Josh Safdie’s Next Film

Well, if Zendaya can win at tennis in Challengers, why not her Dune co-star Timothée Chalamet in a game of ping-pong? Confirming rumors that have been out there for a while, Chalamet is starring in Marty Supreme, a ping-pong movie from director Josh Safdie.

The news was confirmed by A24 on their Twitter feed. And yes, I’m still deadnaming X because that’s what it deserves.

Directed by Safdie who co-wrote the script with Ronald Bronstein, Marty Supreme is about real-life professional ping-pong champion Martin “Marty” Reisman, who began playing at the age of 12 in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, then as a hustler in the 1940s. Reisman won 22 major awards including the U.S. Men’s singles championship in 1958 and 1960. In 1974, Reisman published his autobiography The Money Player, The Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Player and Hustler.

Safdie is one-half of the Safdie Brothers duo with his sibling Benny Safdie. Together they were behind such films as Good Time and Uncut Gems, but have since parted ways.

Coming up for Chalamet is starring as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biopic, A Complete Unknown.
