‘The Fabulous Four’ Trailer: Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, & Sheryl Lee Ralph Star In Wedding Comedy This July

The summer is usually reserved for big studio blockbusters, but there’s something to be said for counterprogramming. Smaller movies have managed to find success over the years by appealing to underserved audiences, and comedies geared towards older women are definitely a rare commodity these days. That opens the door for a film like The Fabulous Four to be a sneaky hit, especially considering the amount of star power and sheer talent on display.

Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, and Sheryl Lee Ralph star in The Fabulous Four, and look, you could put on a damn good song-and-dance variety show with that group. The story sounds like something that should have Diane Keaton in it somewhere, as it follows a group of lifelong friends who reunite for one’s surprise wedding.

The film is directed by Jocelyn Moorehouse, the Australian filmmaker known for How to Make an American Quilt, A Thousand Acres, and The Dressmaker.

Here’s the synopsis: THE FABULOUS FOUR follows three life-long friends (Sarandon, Mullally, and Ralph) who travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend Marilyn (Midler). Once there, sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected.

Bleecker Street will open The Fabulous Four in theaters on July 26th.
