‘Murder 101’: True-Crime Podcast To Become A Movie Directed By Jon Watts

It’s not always easy for a filmmaker to find their way post-MCU, but Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts is doing a pretty good job. He’s got the George Clooney/Brad Pitt action film Wolfs coming up, as well as the Disney+ Star Wars series Skeleton Crew, and already Watts has found his next film, Murder 101, based on a true crime podcast.

Deadline reports that Watts will direct Murder 101, which is based on the podcast of the same name about a group of Tennessee high school students and their teacher who profile and track down a serial killer.

Watts will also produce the film, although it’s unclear who wrote the screenplay. Watts has been known to write some of his projects, as he did Wolfs and his debut film Cop Car, so it’s possible he took a pass at it.  After beginning his career in the indie scene, Watts seems to be done with that and fully invested in big studio movies. And who can blame him given the success he’s had?

Murder 101 was acquired by Amazon MGM in what’s being described as a competitive auction with other studios. Don’t be surprised if high-profile talent is sought to fill out the cast.
