For director Jon Watts, leaving Marvel and a trio of lucrative Spider-Man movies is a huge step. But if he’s going to do it, the best way is with a new movie led by two of the biggest stars in the world: George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The action-comedy Wolfs also represents a kind of comeback film for Watts, whose 2015 debut Cop Car was a hard and fast thriller of a similar nature.
So what’s up with the strangely-worded title? Well, Clooney and Pitt play professional “fixers” forced to work together when they are hired for the same job. Oh, and they’re both illiterate, which leads to some funny moments between them.
Here’s the synopsis: “Global superstars George Clooney and Brad Pitt team up for the action comedy Wolfs. Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two ‘lone wolves’ are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected.”
Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan co-star. Watts directed and also wrote the screenplay.
Wolfs opens in theaters on September 20th.
