Prime Video was VERY pleased with Road House, boasting in a tweet that more than 80 million viewers checked out Doug Liman’s remake of the Patrick Swayze cult classic. So I guess that calms some of the early concerns that it wasn’t getting a theatrical release? Or perhaps it justifies Liman’s criticism because it would’ve done huge box office? Whatever the case, a Road House sequel is coming, so Jake Gyllenhaal better keep up that ab workout regiment.
Prime Video has announced that Road House 2 is on the way, with Gyllenhaal returning as Dalton, ex-MMA fighter who takes a bouncer gig at a dangerous Florida bar, making enemies, breaking hearts, breaking bones, y’know.
So what happens next for Dalton? He did his job too well before, so does he move to a different town? And what about Liman? Road House was extremely popular, so does he put his grievance with Amazon aside and return? And does Amazon decide to give the sequel a theatrical run this time? If this is going to be a franchise, it might be worth doing.
You can check out my review of Road House here. I enjoyed it, while respecting that it was never going to match the insane nature of the original, and that Gyllenhaal is no Swayze.
