‘Power Ballad’: John Carney’s Musical Comedy To Star Paul Rudd And Nick Jonas

John Carney fans, it’s time for us to celebrate. The writer/director of such amazing musical love stories as Once, Begin Again, Sing Street, and last year’s Flora & Son has a new film in the works. Production is underway on Power Ballad, a musical comedy teaming up Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.

Co-written by Carney and Peter McDonald, the film is described as “an uplifting music-driven story about a wedding singer, a rock star, and the song that comes between them.”

This will be the first time that Carney bucks the male/female dynamic for his leads. But fans of Carney know that while all of his films are love stories, they are really about the love for and power of music, not necessarily of the heart. To read too much into this simple synopsis and the casting of Rudd and Jonas would probably be a mistake.

“I’m delighted to be working with so many great people,” said Carney. “I’ve been working on this script with my buddy Peter for years, and now Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are in my kitchen.”

Rudd was most recently seen in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Jonas has appeared in the films Chaos Walking and Love Again opposite his wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas. He’ll be seen next in this summer’s dramedy The Good Half.
