Eddie Murphy was one of the kings of the action-comedy with the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, but that genre sortof went away for a while. But now it’s back in a big way (the return of Bad Boys is another one) with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, with Murphy returning to the role of Detroit cop Axel Foley. However, the film has a very different home as it will skip theaters and premiere exclusively on Netflix.
Joining Murphy are a couple of familiar faces, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton return as detectives Rosewood and Taggart. Also in the cast are Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Kevin Bacon, so a mix of faces old and new.
Here is the synopsis: “Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”
The film was directed by Mark Molloy, with Will Beall And Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) on the screenplay.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hits Netflix on July 3rd.
