- Dune: Part Two (review)– $81.5M
I’m still in some level of disbelief that Denis Villeneuve has converted me to a Dune fan. The David Lynch version of the Frank Herbert story always felt to me like a Flash Gordon film that thought it was better then everyone. It seems I”m not the only one, whereas that 1984 version was a commercial failure Villeneuve’s two part epic looks to be a rousing success. On some level it does highlight how much cinema financials have changed, there was a time not too long ago that a weekend take of less then $100M domestic would be seen as a failure. With $175M worldwide there seems to be some hope that we may just see the conclusion to the epic journey we’ve gone on.
2. Bob Marley: One Love– $7.4M/$82.7M
3. Ordinary Angels (review)- $3.8M/$12.5M
4. Madame Web– $3.2M/$404M
While the take is paltry I do have to give some kudos to Madame Web, I didn’t think there’d be a snowballs chance in hell that it would still be in the top 5 in its third week.
5. The Chosen S4: Episodes 7-8 – $3.1M
There’s no denying it at this point, faith-based films are seeing a serious resurgance. While it may not be topping every newsfeed you’d have to be blind to not notice the number of faith-based content breaking the top 10 over the last year or so. This one, a Fathom Events presentation of a show based on the life of Jesus Christ, is a glowing example. Fathom Events has put a lot of TV Shows in theaters for special event episodes, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead just to name a few, yet this is the first theatrically shown TV series to make the Top 10.
6. Migration– $2.5M/$123.4M
7. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training– $2M/$15.7M
8. Wonka – $1.7/$216.7
9. Argylle – $1.4M/$43.9M
10. The Beekeeper – $1.1M/$64.9M
