The road has been full of twists and turns for The Bikeriders, ever since Jeff Nichols’ motorcycle club drama was dropped by Disney last year, shortly before it was to become part of the awards season. But Focus Features snatched it up, and it’s easy to see why. The leading trio of Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy are red-hot, and look even hotter on two wheels and in black leather jackets.
A new trailer puts its focus on Hardy, Comer, and Butler, conveniently timed to Butler starring in this week’s Dune: Part Two which is poised to be a gigantic hit. The Bikeriders is based on the famous photo book by photographer Danny Lyon (played in the film by Mike Faist), and centers on the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club and its evolution into a dangerous gang.
Also in the cast are Norman Reedus, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Beau Knapp, Demon Herriman, Toby Wallace, and Emory Cohen. The film was written and directed by Nichols, and premiered at Telluride last year.
Here’s the official synopsis: THE BIKERIDERS follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
The Bikeriders opens in theaters on June 21st.
