*SPOILERS* Steven Caple Jr. In Talks To Return For Another ‘Transformers’ Movie; Teases Crossover Plans

Whether you saw the conclusion of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts or merely read our spoiler-filled post about it yesterday, you know that director Steven Caple Jr. has some ambitious plans ahead. But, that depends on if Paramount and Hasbro let him move forward on with it. Well, it’s off to a pretty good start, because it appears that Caple is coming back for more.

Caple joined Deadline’s Crew Call podcast and revealed that he’s already in talks to return for the next Transformers movie…

“I’m not officially signed on for the next movie. We’re in the works now, but I’m not officially signed on,” Caple said. “I’m in talks. I set up a lot of stuff in this film… Every time we talk about the future, there’s a lot of ‘we,’ the word ‘we.’ So, it kinda naturally fell that way. Everything that was planted in [‘Rise of the Beasts’] was planted for the future. So, yeah, we’re in talks.”

Okay, so what Caple “set up” is a potential Transformers crossover with another nostalgic Hasbro property, GI Joe. The two franchises used to encounter each other in the pages of Marvel Comics, and fans have always seen them as existing in the same universe.

“I have some ideas for how to branch out that part of the IP,” Caple said. “If I can do the crossover that I plan on doing, there’s a way to still feed the fans in terms of what they want in ‘Transformers’ films and also do something cool with another legendary IP that I’ve always fell in love with as a kid. And there are parts and characters in [‘G.I. Joe’] that we’ve never used before. I would be excited and thrilled to incorporate it and do something really cool and special.”

A Transformers/GI Joe movie is basically checking off an item from a lot of fanboys’ wishlists. If Caple gets to do it, it could be the thing that keeps GI Joe relevant on the big screen.
